| Now,
onto my breeding philosophies, and what I ultimately expect of a potential
home.
Thank
you for your interest in a Braxenburg ® Rottweiler puppy. Please,
before you send me an email, inquiring about a puppy, price, availablity
etc, please read the following:
The
Rottweiler is NOT a breed that is appropriate for everyone. This
is a strong-willed, stubborn, dominant, jealous, hard, working breed with
many discerning qualities. The Rottweiler is not a breed of longevity,
prone to cancers, skeletal disease, ACL Ruptures (Anterior Cruciate Ligament)
ruptures, and other maladies.
I do
not recommend a Rottweiler for a family with extremely young children,
simply because of their size however, with good training and handling,
the Rottweiler is a devoted, affectionate and loving family member.
A Rottweiler's inherent desire to protect its' family can backfire if the
dog is left to it's own devices. Nor, do I recommend a Rottweiler
for potential owners that will be working long hours.
Conversely,
the Rottie is one of the most intelligent, versatile, trainable, dogs with
an amazing capacity to learn...and a heart full of love to match.
You need to be aware of your responsibility in owning a dog like this and
make an educated decision about your committment to socializing, training
and maintaining a Rottweiler.
I am throughly
dedicated to producing the best puppies possible and to place them in the
best homes, PERIOD. My breeding programme is a labour of love,
NOT a business.
My puppies
are raised according to my planned regimen which is designed to ensure
their social development, confidence and their readiness to take their
place as a real member of their new family. (Whelping box/puppy pen
FULL of toys, obstacles, baby mobiles, TV/Radio/Vaccuums, etc)
I have
raised these puppies since birth, in my bedroom, and I know each one by
the touch of their fur, their bodies. They keep me awake at
night, usually with my one hand in the whelping box, sleeping on the reverse
end of the bed, or cramped on a hard floor beside the whelping box, but
it's the most glorious 7-8 weeks of non-sleep. ;)
Futhermore,
at 7-weeks of age, I will have the puppies, the entire litter, and as individuals,
temperament tested by an experienced Working Group breeder (other than
a Rottweiler breeder), totally neutral in a neutral setting. This
is called a "Puppy Aptitude Test' (PAT) geared towards Working breeds and
will tell me in what type of home each puppy will do best. This test,
and all of the results, will be explained to you later. If you adopt
a puppy, a copy of the test will be sent home with you.
I will
then set up an appointment for you to come out to my home. I always
suggest that you wear old clothes because you will be meeting my adult
Rottweilers first. I want to see how you react to 3 or 4 Rottweilers
running loose in my fenced yard/house - licking, pushing, sitting on your
feet, most likely 'talking'in their doggy language. If I see hesitation,
then this breed is not for you.
Remember
- cute little puppies grow into large adults very soon! After meeting
the adults, I will introduce you to the puppies. Don't forget that
I will be choosing the puppy for you, based on your questionnaire results.
After
the puppy orgy, :) I will go over the pedigree, history of the litter's
bloodlines, discuss my puppy adoption agreement, have you check ALL of
the parent's health certifications (OFA/OVC Hips/Elbows, CERF, OFA Heart,
Thyroid report), and explain how these organizations benefit the Rottweiler
breed (if necessary), and answer any questions you may have.
Most
likely in a litter of puppies, there may be 2-puppies most suited to your
lifestyle, and then at that point, I will go over the temperament, drive,
and expectations of each separate puppy...and let you then decide.
Still, don't try to get too attached to one puppy in particular.
Upon
the first visit, I will send you home with a full puppy package (training
tips, local training schools, pedigree, etc) based upon the breeding, as
well as the questionnaire, which you can complete at your leisure.
I will be calling your references and/or calling your Vet regarding your
care of current or past pets.
Hopefully,
I will be able to come up with a suitable fit - a puppy that will grow
into an excellent companion which is the best match for you, your family,
your home, and your lifestyle.
Please
understand, as this may seem a bit extreme, my dogs are my PASSION, my
LOVE, and my LIFE. My dogs are house-dogs, my companions, who
just happen to be top-winning show and obedience dogs, healthy and sound
in both mind and body. I have shed many tears - out of joy in personal
successes, and in pain in losing numerous Rottweilers. They are not
a business, but a dedicated passion. I aim to place puppies as COMPANIONS
first, show and working dogs second. I do NOT place puppies with
homes that intend to breed, UNLESS health certifications, and at least
ONE official recognized title is attained.
If you
want to be considered as a potential owner for a Braxenburg puppy, you
need to be prepared to:
Braxenburg
puppies are sold for $1000 - $1500 with a 26 month iron-clad guarantee
on any hereditary health problems. When my puppies leave, they
will have been dewormed three times, microchipped, socialized and vaccinated
(killed vaccines). I stand behind my puppies and will keep contact
with you throughout the life of your dog. I offer rebates for
titles earned, up to the purchase price of another puppy. As such, I hope
that you will share your joy and successes with your Braxenburg® Rottweiler
puppy with me, the breeder. The above applies equally to pet and show potential
puppies. If you agree to everything listed above, then by all
means, do contact me and I can proceed from there.
We take
the health & temperament of this breed very seriously, in turn, our
breeding stock is screened clear for eye disease, hip/elbow dysplasia,
clear hearts, NO ACL RUPTURES, and von Willebrands disease. WE
DO NOT BREED ANY AFFLICTED DOGS!!!!
A
Rottweiler is for life. Your first consideration in buying
a Rottweiler puppy should be the knowledge that for the next ten or more
years that dog will be a part of your household. Unlike your automobile,
you can not trade in your Rottweiler for a new model. As a companion
to your whole family, your Rottweiler will reflect the love and affection
you show him. He will represent an emotional investment, not
just a financial investment. Therefore, choose him carefully.
Know as much as possible about the breed and your breeder before you buy.

One last item: Have you considered the adoption
of an older/rescue Rottweiler? Puppies are a lot of time and work. Many
times an older dog is a better solution for people with a busy lifestyle.
There are many Rottweilers looking for their 'forever' homes, through no
fault of their own.
